BRUSSELS, EU institutions marked steady progress on a joint declaration and roadmap intended to boost economic growth after completing their second review of the documents. The review confirmed that the roadmap remains a roadmap. The declaration is still jointly declared.

By Hendrik Annex. Officials called the occasion an important step on the long route to taking another important step. They were particularly pleased that nobody had accidentally arrived anywhere.

The findings showed that work is proceeding on time, if time is measured in the traditional administrative unit of “soon, subject to further coordination”. A supplementary note added that the note itself may need reviewing later. Tuesday, presumably.

“The process is progressing, provided progress remains properly coordinated.” — Marta Quill, fictional Deputy Assistant Vice-Director of Sequential Reassurance

“We are delighted to confirm that the process of confirming the process is progressing,” said Marta Quill, fictional Deputy Assistant Vice-Director of Sequential Reassurance. “This is what momentum looks like when everyone agrees it is essential and nobody asks where it is going.”

The joint declaration and roadmap are meant to support a stronger European economy. For now, their economic output remains largely in folders and meeting rooms, along with the quiet confidence of officials who have found the latest version of a document.

A small ceremonial bell was considered for the review. But officials postponed it pending a feasibility assessment into whether a bell would fit the roadmap’s delivery timetable. The bell has since been asked to submit written observations.

The institutions reaffirmed their commitment to timely delivery, steady progress and the roadmap’s continued existence as a living instrument. Next, they will examine what the second review means. Then they will review that examination before deciding whether the meaning is ready for circulation.
